What is ZPTech?
ZPTech® is a range of zinc-based antimicrobial technologies from Microban. In addition to being effective against bacteria, mould, and mildew growth, specific formulations have also been proven to reduce viral loading on surfaces. ZPTech can be integrated into a wide range of applications including insulation foams, cleaning tools.
How does ZPTech work?
ZPTech works by disrupting internal enzymes, blocking metabolic pathways and creating an environment in which bacteria, mould and mildew cannot grow. The technology provides multiple modes of action that helps prevent microbes from developing resistance, ensuring ZPTech keeps working for the life of the product.
Key benefits of ZPTech
- Broad-spectrum performance: effective against bacteria, mould and mildew growth.
- Low solubility: offers a low solubility (8 ppm), making it a very durable antimicrobial.
- Durable: durability testing shows that polymers soaked for 2000 hours at 70°C in a detergent bath containing 3000 ppm ZPTech remained 99.99% effective in preventing the growth of bacteria.
- Thermally stable up to 235°C: suitable for a variety of manufacturing applications and materials used in moist, humid environments.
- Works 24/7: incorporated throughout the material during the manufacturing process, ensuring it remains effective for the life of the treated product.
- Safe to use: encapsulates zinc pyrithione in customized carriers, making it safe to handle while causing no disruption to current manufacturing processes.
Is ZPTech regulatory compliant?
ZPTech is notified with the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) and registered with US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Specific formulations are also permitted for use in intermittent food contact applications by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
